A striking end grain board built from Irish spalted beech, with pale beech stripes framing the outer edges and a single oak strip running through the centre. The spalting in this one is particularly strong — the dark branching lines are drawn by fungus working through the timber as it lay, and no two pieces are ever the same.
The grain of each strip is selected and orientated so the spalt figure carries across the whole face, with the paler beech and the oak giving the board its structure and contrast. Treated with a food-safe finishing oil.
A substantial board at 490 × 315 × 60mm and a solid 6kg, built from hard, durable timber that will give a lifetime of use with the proper care and attention. End grain construction is easier on knives than a conventional board and more forgiving over years of use.
